So let me ask for it -:) 
I also asked my Sun dealer but he seems  to be confused about the libusb
thing, since libusb support for Linux is now in 3.1alpha.
Or is he right and this can be used somehow for usb storage devices? 

My modest understanding is that "USB mass storage" means something like 
"SCSI commands over USB bus" and "libusb"  means 
"any other protocol hardware vendors invented for their USB devices".  
So is it possible to use the libusb layer also for mass storage by 
implementing the SCSI part on top of it?   
Perhaps I am too naive here.... but my users would like to use their USB
sticks also on "Linux Sun Rays".
