First of all, I don't think I've ever seen anything from Sun (or SGI, or IBM RS6k) do 16bits. It has always been either 8-bit or 24-bit. Second, the way X implements 8-bit, you'd find yourself in colormap hell. One program would steal all the colormap entires, and another would look really crappy. Or you'd get a horrible colormap-flashing effect when moving from one program window to another. At least as modern programs are concerned, 24-bit is preferable all the time. Of course if the 8-bit piece is only in the SunRay protocol, and not an X setting itself, then you'd probably be ok. -Derek _______________________________________________ SunRay-Users mailing list [email protected] http://www.filibeto.org/mailman/listinfo/sunray-users
