Hi,

I am attempting to rollout Ubuntu Breezy Badger for use with SunRay,
however, I am
stuck at the point of getting audio working.

I'm on Debian Sarge, so Ubuntu should be possible too :)

My issue is that I do not get the $AUDIODEV environment variable, along
with the utaudio processes running under the logged-in user. Although I
had some sticking points in the setup of the kernel modules, I was under
the impression that I got it right.

You probably forgot the /etc/X11/Xsession.d/10SUNWut script. This calls
another script which in turn sets the AUDIODEV variable.

To see if the module works, see if 'lsmod' lists the utadem module. If
not, try modprobing it just to see if its there and it can load at
all...

Jakob,

Although I had setup the 10SUNWut script correctly, the script did not result in the
correct environment variables for the audio devices.  At the same time, variables
such as SUN_SUNRAY_TOKEN were created.  I have found that the
/etc/opt/SUNWut/basedir/lib/utxprop script cannot locate the xprop program which
is located in /usr/bin in Ubuntu.  I have edited the utxprop script as follows:

for XPATH in /usr/openwin/bin /usr/X11R6/bin /usr/X11/bin /usr/bin ; do

This adds /usr/bin to the path and the program continues on it's merry way setting up
the AUDIODEV & UTAUDIODEV variables.

I am now after assistance with getting esd working with SunRay.  My problem is the same as
detailed here: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg00800.html
where the author of the post suggests to remove libesd-alsa0 and install libesd0.  When attempting
to remove the libesd-alsa0 package, apt-get is also going to remove ubuntu-desktop (the core
desktop package - that isn't going to happen..)

I think my solution may lay within /etc/asound.conf or the symlinking of libraries..  If anyone who has got esd working with SunRay on Ubuntu/Debian could post their suggestions and/or /etc/asound.conf, it might get me on the right track.

Thanks,

Naaman.
