Hello all,

we would like to connect a serial device to a Sun Ray at a remote location (actually evaluating whether we need to install a fat PC over there). The Sun Ray 150 has a serial port, but it is no longer on theprice list and not our device for other reasons. The 1g and 170 have 4 USB-ports.

The 150 does not have a serial port. The 170 does have two serial ports
built in, though, and they are supported with SRSS 3.1

I am confused. I triple-checked http://www.sun.com/sunray/sunray170/specs.xml and found nothing about serial ports. I googled some more and finally found a PDF that mentions the serial ports. I then went on to order such a device, and in our suppliers description it says 6 USB-ports and again no mentioning of serial ports. Weird! Are their different models for different countries? I would buy on in germany.

On our Mac we use a KeySpan-Adaptor to connect a serial device (e.g. a SunFire) to the Mac (USB-Port). What would our options be to connect a serial device to a Sun Ray (hardware, drivers,...)? Any ideas?

Aside from the 170 built-in ports, you can use a few different types
of USB-to-Serial adapters, listed at:

http://www.sun.com/io_technologies/sunray.html

Thanks!

Regards,

  Andreas
