Hello Samuel,

Yesterday I installed Solaris 10 update 1 on it which went very well.
Today I ran some small tests to compare it to a Sun Blade 100 and a V240.
Both Sun Blade and V240 are still on Solaris 10 3/5.
I tested 3 things: Login time, staroffice start time and mozilla start time.
I tested this several times because the first time it is always slower.
The T2000 is much faster than than the Blade. Logging on was 4 times faster.
Starting a browser was almost two times faster.

But compared to the V240 it is a bit slower.
T2000 takes 17 seconds to logon compared to the 15 seconds for the V240
However I would expect that if I run these tests with higher loads (number of users) the picture would probably just be the otherway around. I expect the T2000 to perform better than the V240 with say 30+ users. And I even expect the T2000 to perform better than the Opteron boxes with 60+ users.
But I am still looking for a good way to simulate that kind of a load.

The overall impression is that JDS is workable on a T2000, it is not snappy but there are some things that still can be tuned. For instance, if Sun would replace Mozilla Suite with Firefox and Thunderbird and also replace Staroffice 7 with Staroffice 8 in JDS it would also be a bit faster. It only needs to be a little bit faster to be a really great sunray system and maybe that can be done in software. You would be ending up with the best scalable sunray system available today.
Any suggestions for further testing are welcome.

Ivar

We have 2 T2000 systems available for testing Sunray performance.

I would also be interested with testing the T2000 in Sunray use.
I'll ask my local Sun rep for a loan (if possible), because if
it works as intended, this server would be the perfect Sunray server.
The 32 threads of the T1 would come in handy, in a user-generated CPU
load environment, IMHO.
Any other opinion on this new UltraSparc server ?
