$LD_LIBRARY_PATH for all users recently?

The slowness happens only on the v440, so even if the v210 are less
ressources than v440, people go to the v210 to work.
I have the feeling that this problem is related to gnome and its
libraries. The login with CDE is short, but with JDS you have to wait
few minutes.
Anybody have ideas on what direction to search? this morning, i rebooted
the v440, and i suppress all files in /var/tmp
orbit-***
gconfd-***
svc***
do this files be deleted more often?
many users don't logout for days, is that good? i'm unable to force them
to logout everyday
