Thanks much for the response, Otto. I'm on the road today and won't get
to try these suggestions until tomorrow. Comments inline.

It just disappears while you're typing into it?
I'll have to try that.
Which desktop
had you logged in to?
gnome
If you log in to the "Failsafe" desktop
do you still get logged out after a few seconds?
I'll check it out.
- If I log in to the SunRay server with a card, and remove my card:

logged out, I have the login prompt

Either the Sun Ray additions have not been spliced into the
end of the /usr/dt/config/Xstartup script, and/or you have a local
/etc/dt/config/Xstartup that is being executed instead of the one
in /usr/dt/config. Most likely the latter, because it's hard to
think up a scenario where Xsetup gets the Sun Ray additions
but Xstartup doesn't. If you have a local Xstartup then resync
it with the system Xstartup. If you must use a local Xstartup
(or Xsetup, Xreset) then if possible it's far better to have the local
version of the file *source* the one from /usr/dt than it is to copy
the one from /usr dt and then customise the local copy.
I'll try it out.
I'm assuming you're running SRSS on Solaris. It's usually a
good idea to mention which OS you're using and which release
of SRSS you have.
Doh!
Solaris x86 10 6/06
uname -a
SunOS icarus 5.10 Generic_118855-19 i86pc i386 i86pc
cat /etc/release
