James,
Its really hard to give solid numbers on scaling. We run a wide range of
Solaris and Windows apps. Some of the classrooms only run Solaris, others
only run Windows. On the Sun ray Servers that only support Windows, we use
CAM mode. A T2000 will scale to "a lot" of users. The rule I always follow,
is if the server has to support several users, I always build in redundancy
with failover groups with multiple servers. The best recommendation I can
give you on Sun Ray scaling is to contact Sun and have a SE come out and
help you size your requirement. On the Windows side for terminal server
scaling. We only run Windows 2003 Enterprise, because we want to exceed the
4GB memory barrier. We use 2200's, 4100's, V20Z, V40Z, and we just installed
a 4600m2 as a terminal server with 64GB of RAM. All of the other Terminal
servers mentioned have 32Gb of RAM. For sizing this also depends, I have
seen 200 users on two V40Z's, but the users were only using Office apps. The
best way to find out is to do a pilot and test all your apps, and see what
resources you need. We have been using Sun Rays for 7 years, we have seen a
70% reduction in TCO, we support our entire enviroment with 2 Solaris and 2
Windows Admins. We are also in the process of installing a additional 1500
DTU's. Please E-mail me direct at [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you have more
questions.

Good Luck

thanks dave this is good to know. Would you be able to say what the server
to sunray ratio giving details of the typical server spec to support that
ratio?
James
