I believe manual-switching KVMs shouldn't be a problem:

I use an USB hub and a couple of USB cables hanging from
the Sun Ray and the computer. Switching involves plugging
the uplink of the USB hub to one of these USB cables and
it's pretty much what happens in manual USB switches.

For video switching I use a dual-DSUB monitor (Iiyama 454);
It has a BUTTON for switching the video input lines, unlike
some modern displays which require using an OSD menu for
this. Alas, the latter trend has hit all Sun LCD displays
I've seen recently.
