Go into that user's home directory and do:
$ rm -rf .gconf* .gnome*
Warning: this will result in the loss of some data and settings.
It's better, in cases like this, to run "gnome-cleanup".
That's available on Solaris, anyway, I'm not sure about Linux and don't
have a handy system to check at the moment.
