You should be able enable RDP connections to XDT4.

http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX121657

From there you can use all the tools that Sun currently has for MMR, Flash, USB, and also use any future enhancements.

While I'm not that fond of having to use a browser to start, theoretically it should be possible to write some code, perhaps even a script (wget, curl, etc) to develop a more client like front end.

Regarding ICA...

Sun was in negotiations to become a self maintainer of the ICA Client. Citrix decided that they would handle all the work in updating the Solaris ICA Client. They decided this when the Oracle acquisition was approved by the EU. The person on the Citrix side who was our liaison is no longer with the company though we were supposed to be turned over to their team that works with Oracle. Nothing has transpired since.

I'm as frustrated as any other person regarding this. Quite a few people (Eng, Sales, Legal, Exec) dedicated a lot of time to these negotiations to have it abruptly end.

I don't see any downside for either. Someone loyal to Sun Ray would choose something other than Citrix if ICA performance is bad and vice versa. If ICA performance is good, then Sun Ray had the potential to sell even more seats due to their ease of setup and zero admin.

Unless of course an entity was scared of the Oracle stack and it's (future?) potential to eliminate an incumbent stack.

I've managed to connect to xendesktop webinterface with Opera and launch

Now I would like to build a kiosk setup and looking for a best way to do that.

Is web interface only solution or could it be possible to get ip of the VM some
other way for wfica ?

Hello Anton,

I think things got worse.
http://forums.citrix.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1420332&tstart=0
The latest Solaris x86 ica client (8.63) has problems connecting to the
latest presentation server.
This was also a problem with the ica linux client version 10.
It seems to be solved in the Linux ica client 11.
But since the solaris x86 client is so far behind I am not sure when
this will be fixed for the solaris client.

Kind regards,
Ivar

Hi,

Warming up this "old" subject...

Is there any how to's about this somewhere?

Cheers,

XenDesktop can work both with a browser and the Citix ICA Client in
PNAgent mode. Sun and Citrix are working on how to's and also making
the solution more turnkey. The streaming client is only for PC's that
would have hard drives and what not. In the case of Sun Ray you'd
connect to a VM that either runs the streaming client or is a full XP
instance both of which could get their apps from XenApp (Presentation
Server).

Hi,

I've been looking into this aswell.
I think this won't work because XenDesktop needs the new citrix
streaming client which is only available for windows platforms so far
i've seen. Wyse Viance should support XenDesktop but lacks information
regarding it's OS, so i guess it's windows based.
