yes, the unsetenv LD_PRELOAD is the solution in my case, but the sound
is lost.
unfortunately, installing FF4 on Centos 5.4 is not an option now (as it
needs more changes)

On Solaris, FireFox has been patched to support $AUDIODEV, so
$LD_PRELOAD is not required and this issue is averted. But that model is
not supported on Linux.
