I too am lurking while sup goes through its early development phases. In the meantime I use GMail and OfflineIMAP and other than the occassional bug out from OfflineIMAP things have been working pretty smoothly for a couple of months. It's much faster than IMAP, especially with my mua of choice: mutt. > and will allow me to send email offline (like offline git commits?). No, you still send mail using GMail's SMTP server.
