I guess what you really want to know is will it work ;-) Well perhaps it will. Just for fun I tried a Creative PC DVD drive and to my shock while it isn't bootable it works just fine!(This was just sitting around in an unused old PC) I can't play DVD video's except with an old shareware DVD player that doesn't work very well. All the other files and mpg's and QT files all play fine from a DVD data disk that came free on a Computer Mag. CD's CDR and CDRW all play fine.i would need either an ATI 128 rage Video card or newer so I can use the Apple DVD player. or a Wired4DVD card. It's a gamble so make sure you can take it back. Here is a short list of drives that seem to work for more then one person. Sony Spressa CDX 140E Lite-On LTR -12101B (Apple has started using this brand of drives in new machines) Also sold as Pacific Digital same number Plextor PX- W1610TA info from www.xlr8yourmac.com there were several more drives with only 1 report as to it's working. Some drives work but don't boot others you need to choice the mounted disk to boot from. Some drives work as master some as slave.. Hope this helps.
