Although I haven't tried iMovie 2 on my S900 yet, I have been running the
free iMovie 1.1 for quite a while now without problems (possibly still
available free on UMich PubMac ftp archives). It may still work with a 604e
CPU but very slowly. The problem with install may not be with the machine's
ability, but what the installer detects as the machine. I had the same
problem with installing iTunes or Disk Burner (can't remember which). The
answer is to extract the files from the installer with TomeViewer (available
free on the web- just do a Google search for it).

For HD's either 5400 or 7200 rpm is fine as you only need a sustained write
speed of about 4MB/s, which most modern drives can handle no problems. In
real world use I haven't found that much of a difference between 5400 and
7200 rpm through an IDE PCI card, and it tends to be platter density which
is the best determiner of real world speed. My recommendation would be go
for the largest GB and platter density you can get for the amount of money
you have to spend. Although the specs below say that you need an inbuilt
firewire port, with iMovie 1.1 at least, I have had no problems with Edit
DV, ADS Pyro and a cheap generic PC firewire card.

Cheers, Pete.
