Ladies and Gentlemen of the List,
In my quest for future compatibility with OS X I am asking for your
thoughts on these two PCI cards that will go into my boosted(XLR8 MPe -G4/450
@ 492) S900 and provide future support for OS X w/o continually sacrificing
to the upgrades gods.
Uses--Mostly I-Net surfing, and flight sims, Myth series, Diablo,
Starcraft, Terminus, X-wing, some Educational Programs. Want to upgrade video
for terminus. Requires faster video than my IX Game Rocket, much too slow and
choppy, even with stripped extensions and CP's set up, and massive amount of
RAM dedicated (256MB) to it. I figure that I need faster/better video, but
something supportable under OS-X when I get there(no hurry though).
My rig:
XLR8-MPe w/ XLR8 1x G4/450 boosted to 492mhz (not quite stable enough at the
next steps, 498 & 504, though it will boot and load most of the time, it
hangs too often) & 784MB FPM RAM, interleaved
IX Micro Game Rocket w/8mb
VST Ultra tek IDE/ATA card w/ Maxtor 5T040H4 40GB HD 7200 rpm (the Dumpster),
Matshita CD 7586 CD-RW(Damned thing never worked beyond CD-ROM, ready to dump
it for a scsi, make me an offer!!!)
Seagate ST1515W-APL 4 gb drive w/ 2 volumes Scsi id=0 One is OS 9.04 boot
drive
Quantum Fireball 1280S 1.2 gb drive for Documents Folder and AOL Email Backup
SCSI ID=4
Matshita CD8008 CD-ROM SCSI id=1
Shuttle Technology USB card
Don't mind buying new for the warranty so URLs to the best shopping sites are
appreciated. Will also consider used if parties are considered trustworthy
(ie perhaps known to other list members).
As I said, am looking at Radeon 7000 PCI or Radeon Mac Edition (Same thing
different box????). If there are other better suggestions, please see my uses
above before recommending.
Bring it on...
