check the drive connections of course.  if the drive is functioning, a
really brute force way to force a cd startup is to unplug the scsi
connector from the hard drive, this forces the apple to look for another
bootable disk starting at id 6 and going down.  once the cd is booted,
you can reconnect the data cable on the hard drive.  if won't show up on
the desktop until it's mounted, but your formatting software should do
that.  just leave the power cable connected at all times.  i've done
this once or twice, despite not being in the spec virtually all scsi
drives support live connection and disconnect of the data cable,
provided the power cable is at least connected to provide in independent
ground.  also check the cd for fingerprints etc., i've found some drives
very sensitive to finger prints on the media.
