That's all good information. Another thing to think about is that many - if not all - of those messages you are seeing are probably just ads, trying to use scare tactics to get you to buy some security program that you don't need and probably isn't even for Macs anyway.
I've seen those ads, they're often formatted to look like a Windows alert box. I and I know that my computer isn't transmitting an IP address, well, not it's real address, because it is behind a router. Maybe someone on the list will have a link for you to a legitimate site that will tell you how secure your computer is. I know I've seen several, I just don't have them bookmarked or memorized. -John > From: Late-R <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (SuperMacs List) > Date: Sun, 06 Oct 2002 18:45:46 -0600 > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (SuperMacs List) > Subject: Re: [SM] Broadcasting and IP Address, How do I stop it? > > Paul, > > You can run your internet through a Proxy Server or Wingate and it will > broadcast that IP to whereever you're surfing to.
