Thanks Jeff, I was hoping you would see my post calling for help. Even thought I consider myself a cracker jack trouble shooter and familiar with Mac's from the 512 and up. This one sort of stumped me. I wasn't expecting a separate SCSI bus to present a problem, even with the external drive at a different ID #. I know that the ATI drive is #0 and like my old C 600 it should boot when selected in the control panels start up drive. Well as I pointed out in my previous post I disconnected the external drive and bingo! No further problems in booting from the new WD. I am running 9.1 and that drive as well as the old former boot IBM drive. I intend to go up to OS X when I am satisfied that it is more trouble free than it is at present and when Apple decides to put back the rest of the excellent features that we have been accustom to, which btw they have been doing little by little. My son who I live with at the moment is running his laptop with Jag. and has the Panther beta which he is checking out. He still has some problems. Much of his problems can be traced to the fact that he needs more ram and a higher speed CPU.
I intend to get a G4 800 mhz Powelogix and max. out the ram before I move up. I do plan to install 9.2.2 on the IBM drive to run some apps that require it. The Adaptac card that I am using for the internal drives is a 2930 CU. It has a external port as well. Do you think if I adapt the Syquest 50 pin Centronics to the SCSI 2 input that it has I can get around the problem that I have with it on the SCSI 1 bus? Can I play musical chairs with the Adaptac card which is in Slot #1 and the Sonnet ATA 100 card that is in slot #4? I believe that the IMX Micro card really functions best in slot #2 is that the case? Any further suggestions welcomed. Richie B. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
