One of the best out there, particularly for archiving, is Eudora, IMHO. It uses a standard mailbox file format that is platform agnostic and organized into folders that are easy to maintain. Archived mailboxes on another hardrive, CD_ROM or even another network can transparently be accessed from the menu bar and messages moved, duplicated, opened, or deleted entirely at will.
