Thanks for the encouragement. I have the network working from the #2
machine on OS 9.2 to #1 OS X. It seems that in order to have a File
sharing connection from a machine that is not OS X the user making the
connection has to have a user account on the OS X machine. 

Now if I can solve the problem of going in the opposite direction, ie
connecting the OS X #1 to the #2 machine running OS 9.2 I will be happy.
What I prefer is to have the HD's on #2 machine to be on my OS X desktop
so that I can copy stuff to them and update things as well as use
material that is on them.
