I have an extra HD on my s900 plugged into the FWB

curiosity, what sort of things would cause this?

sounds like the OS sends the drive a sleep command, and then it fails to respond to the wake-up call. try looking in your energy saver control panel and changing your settings so that the HD never sleeps.
