hi all!
I am very new to all this macery ;-)
last month I bought a s9000 from ebay now being a pc person I am not really sure why i did this... now I have quite a collection of macs (all off ebay) but that is a different story!
my umax came with 272Mbof ram a 4.2 gig fast and wide drive (with et100) os 9.1
twin turbo graphics card and a 175Mhz 604...
you can see where this is going can't you...
first of back to ebay for a g4 350 newertech daughter card... in that went along with another 64Mb of ram for good measure ;-) wow... that speeded things up..
next came os 9.2.2 a little finniky to get going but with the exelant os9 helper we where away!
in the meantime I bought a green g3 ibook for my yl and was inpressed with osx so off to ebay again and os x 10 .2.2 was duly bought ;-)
spured on by the easy install on the g3 ibook (over os 10.1.1 I was all set to put it on my umax not quite that easy that one! get a copy of xpostfacto put disk in drive off we go...
it didnt come back on at all ;-( in the end I removed the battery and waited and eventually it sprang back into life ;-)... plan b try adding another f&w scsi drive and install on a partition there... get the newest xpostfacto 3.something set the open firmware to appear on the screen... hey presto unable to access pci1 OOPS! remove pci1 et100 find old scsi drive 50 pin out of my old compaq 386 server (this was an upgrade so it was 2Gb) pop that on the internal bus (after disconnecting the cdrw drive ;-)) initialise it from my os 9.2.2
run xpostfacto again with the new 2 gig drive as destination... hey presto! osx ;-))
now for the problems...
1) what is a suitable replacement for the et100? I dont need the ethernet as the builtin 10Mbs is fine for what I am doing but I must have a 68 pin wide scsi bus to go with the new 47Gb drive I just bought ;-)
2) video... safari is great nut it takes 30 seconds to scroll down a fully loaded ebay page (I could have missed two auctions in that time ;-)))... I think it is time to retire the twin turbo...any suggestions?? no 3d games to play just want good performance in quartz!
3) I bought a generic ohc usb card after installing x anyone know how to enable it?

so far it has been an exciting and stimulating experience and the mac fraternety have been happy and helpful I would like to see a day when I could finally put my pc;s to bed in favor of mac's tho I must admit that that seems a little unlikely right now I must say I have been pleased and supprised so far ;-) if any of you out there have any of these things I need feel free to email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
thanks for reading my ramblings and staying awake this far ;-)
garry
