It appears that the Sapphire pci Radeons may no longer be flashable to
mac as the manufacturer has apparently replaced the original 128k rom
chip with one half size at 64k - and the mac rom requires the full 128k
regardless of the flash method used. The part numbers are unchanged so
identifying the 64k rom cards is quite difficult. More info is on the
MacLife site if anyone is interested.

Thats easy to fix. A larger flashRom can be bought on www.digikey.com and the soldering job should take 15 minutes.

ATI as the granter of ATI chip licenses has I believe dictated this flash ROM chip change for the sole purpose of stopping PC cards from being flashed to Mac. Since they haven't changed the card model numbers there is soon to be a flood of cards on the Market that can't be flashed without changing the ROM chip. The average person won't be able to tell which card is which. I think ATI will be surprised to find just how many cards they aren't going to sell by doing this! There are so many PC Video cards available in this price range and many are newer in design etc. later Will S
