Hi there: Thanks for letting me know that a Rage 128 video card is not what came with my trusty C500.
there seem to be several different kinds of these guys: PCI, APG, VGA, ADC, ATI, and who knows what else. I know nothing about this,
PCI and AGP refer to how the card connects to the computer. Recent computers have one AGP slot and several PCI slots. Your C500 only has PCI slots, so avoid the AGP cards. They cannot connect to your computer.
VGA, ADC, DVI and Mac or DB15 refer to types of connectors for connecting to monitors.
VGA is the commonly used HD15 (three rows of pins, 15 total) found on most made for PC monitors. It's hard to go wrong with VGA.
ADC is Apple's silly connector for their LCD monitors. Unless you buy one of Apple's beautiful, overpriced, impossible to connect monitors, you will not need an ADC connector.
DVI is the industry standard connection for LCD and other digital capable displays. Most non-Apple LCD panels seem to come with a VGA connector even if they also have a DVI connector. So again, DVI is not very much needed. However, there are DVI to VGA adapters for under $20 (and under $10 if you shop around) so if you get a video card with a DVI out that you want to use with a VGA monitor it is affordable to do so.
Before VGA was a standard Mac monitors were coming out with a DB15 connector. This is a two row of pins connector with a total of 15 pins. Unfortunately, it looks just like an AUI port if you remember those. There are affordable Mac to VGA and VGA to Mac adapters, so VGA or Mac it isn't a big issue.
ATI is the name of a manufacturer of video cards. Specifically, they make the Rage128 and the Radeon series of video cards.
So, you would like an ATI Rage128 which goes in a PCI slot and has a VGA or a Mac connector, I think. Unless you have an LCD panel...
