I recently purchased a G5 to replace my seven year old S900. What is the best way to give it a dignified retirement?
My first choice is to sell it complete with the mods I've made. My
second choice is to strip out the more valuable components and sell
them while selling or giving away the CPU. Any suggestions on where I
can sell the whole computer or just the better components--is ebay the
best choice? How about any schools or charities that would like a
donation (I live in the Los Angeles South Bay area)?
I had an S900 G4 with 40 GB IBM HD, I GB RAM, stock video card, new CD, etc. and a C500 G3 also with an IBM 40 GB HD. The S900 had OS 10.2.8 and the C500 had OS 9.1. I gave both away to friends who had great desire for a Mac and no cash. It was a good feeling especially when these upgraded machines worked after I set them up in their new homes. The new owners were delighted.
Go to your local school where you will probably find many takers. The teachers may be able to steer you to a worthy student. Good luck.
