Will and all,
I installed the Powerlogix 900 mhz zif into the XLR8
zif carrier on Christmas day. I am happy to report
that this thing is INSANELY fast. I never thought
that Jaguar would run on old hardware with a speed
that is actually FAST. Like Will suggested, I set the
zif dip switches as if the zif were going to be
installed into a beige G3, and the jumpers on the zif
carrier for 55 mhz bus, and a 12x multiplier.
Congrats on getting this to work!!! What did you do for the heat sink or did it fit with the one you had? If you look back on the info I sent you . You will see that the dip switches on the Zif set the basic multiplier setting for a safe first booting and CPU Director as you found lets you fine tune and increase this setting. As I noted and you found out the mulitplier settings on the carrier card are by passed and best left set to off according to others findings. The carrier card bus speed settings do work as you found and you might well get a bit faster bus though long term testing and bench marks found my machine runs best at the 55 MHz setting where it's been for like 2 years now with a G3 500 clocked to 550MHz.
Next, I installed Cache Control X, then CPU Director,
both downloads from the Powerlogix web site. Using
CPU Director, I gradually increased the CPU speed,
which maxxed out for me at 825 mhz.

I'm wondering where you bought the Zif? Since you were able to get settings higher then 13:1 multiplier Powerlogix has either changed the limits on this Zif or you got one made before the middle of Sept 02. Which would be good news. In fact 825 MHz is amazing speed for the price of these Zifs! I might buy one if I was sure I could get one that doesn't have the 13x max limit that another guy ended up with.
I can now watch DVD video using VLC, the finder is
insanely fast, and classic launches in about 35
seconds. I HIGHLY recommend the Powerlogix zif if you
already own a zif carrier, and want OS X to feel like
it is running on modern hardware.

You should also be able to use Apple DVD player if you have an ATI 128 Rage pro or Radeon video card.
Keep us posted on how this works out for you over a period of time. Will S
