Thought you might be interested in hearing about this;

Using DiskWarrior, managed to "see" and retrieve important files from an
18 gb partition of a 60 gb ATA drive. (This is the middle of three
partitions.)
The directory was corrupted beyond repair but DW assembled a temporary
directory for me that basically was identical to the contents of that
partition.
I was able to select and drag over files that I needed over to my
external firewire drive. Retrieved everything that I needed, which were
all family related digital SLR RAW files that only time travel would
make it possible to replace.
About two week's worth of files that I hadn't backed up since last time.

Although the partition is not useable and I would need to reformat the
entire drive and start over, DiskWarrior allowed me to prepare for this
without losing a step.

The drive in question is the infamous IBM UltraStar 60GXP, that was a
warranty replacement with the daily run-time restriction that caused a
stir.
The drive developed a faint high-pitched noise about a month ago that
has been annoying enough to give me a heads-up on the impending doom.
(DiskWarrior and DiskOptimizer had been run on a regular basis, so I can
only assume early signs of mechanical failure.)

Everything's backed up and I am able to function as if nothing's
happened for the time being.

Disk Warrior + External CD burner comes through once again !
