Will seemed to sum up things well so I must assume you have run Tiger on a S900 ? I have a copy of Tiger on DVD and yes a firewire DVD burner.

Yep i've got Tiger on my j700 though Panther 10.3.8 is my current main OS.
Tried the latest Xpost but it hangs upon reading the " libarary bla bla bla " ( sorry for the lack of code understanding). Have you been able to install from a firewire drive ?
I installed it using a Pioneer 105 DVD RW drive in a firewire box. ;-)
I have read through the tech info at the OWC site, and this is what I have tried:

 - Formating the desired set up drive in OSX (10.2.8)
Kiss of death right at the beginning! You have to format the drive while booted in OS 9. A few people have gotten it to install with an OSX formated drive but it won't boot and usually won't install.
 - Pulling out all but the video and firewire card from the PCI bus
 - Adjusting the option settings in Xpost
Set the output to your video card & keyboard to input. What Video card are you using? Jaguar will work with more Video cars then newer versions will. You need to use the throttle setting to use a firewire drive to boot a cd in OSX . i set it all the way to 24 and it works fine . Sometimes I have to switch the DVD drive oiff and on quickly until it gets going. My drive has a light on the front so easy to tell when it's reading etc. You can also read about using a helper drive to boot from a firewire drive with XPFacto but I've not needed it.
 - Rearanging the memory ( about 800 mb worth )

Any way to strip down Tiger off DVD and break up into CD's with out sending it out to Apple ? It came with my wifes G4 ibook.
I think someone has done this but i'm the wrong person to tell you how. I think the forum at XPFacto may have something to say about this. As above you can likely use your DVD drive.
Perhaps this is enough to get you started. best of luck Will S

Happy with 10.2.8, but have a few things that may be fun to use that will only run with 10.3 or better, and as I have Tiger why not try.

Thanks in advance for any and all help ,

 Frank
