Hi. I've been running my 19" monitor at 1280 x 1024, displaying thousands of
colors. Millions is not an option at this particular resolution. I just
installed a 3D modeling program that was released 4, 5 years ago and I noticed
immediately that there was obvious banding in the rendered images until I
switched my display to millions of colors. I also had to lower my resolution to
1152 x 870 in order to be able to use the "millions" option. My question is
this: Does it sound like a different video card and/or new graphics software
would allow me to use the higher resolution and display at millions of colors?
Also (I did ask this before and got one or two responses for which I was
thankful) can anyone recommend a good graphics accelerator card that would be
well suited for rendering highly detailed images from a 3D modeling program?
I'm running the following configuration:
S900
Sonnet upgrade (450 MHz)
1 Gb RAM
OS 9.2.2
Two 2 Gb SCSIs
ATA card
120 Gb EIDE drive
USB controller card

One last note: If any of you remember, I'm the guy that lost his S900 a few
months ago to the black screen of death. I was able to score another S900 from
eBay in MINT condition and transferred all my upgrades to the "new" machine.
It's been working beautifully but I did have another brief encounter w/ the
black screen of death after a crash while logged onto the internet. Fortunately
I had saved all the replies to my earlier plight and was able to restore the
video using a few of the remedies suggested (namely temporarily reverting to
the old processor and unplugging my external SCSI connection). Thanks to all of
you who responded w/ your many suggestions. They sure did come in handy.

Elliot
