Hey, SuperMac-ers!
Can any you think of any reason why a Twin Turbo card wouldn't work in a C-500? I can physically install it and hook up the monitor, and it semi-works, but my desktop seems to be off the screen. Does this sound crazy? I've been brainstorming with Jeff Walther and his theory is that the computer "thinks" the on-board video card has a monitor hooked up to it (it doesn't) and the Twin Turbo is the "enlarged desktop." This makes sense to me, but neither of us know how to reset the computer into thinking that the new video card is the main video. Cuda switch? PRAM? Thanking you in advance.

Wow a C500 ? been a long time. No, I see no reason why a twin turbo wouldn't work in a C500. I don't remember if I ever used my twinTurbo in the C500 or not. I did run it with an ATI Rage pro 8 MB card (still in the machine I think) and it ran really well. I do seem to remember the screen picture being too big for the screen issue at some point. Is that the issue you are having? The desktop is so big your only seeing the middle or part of it? Macs have auto detect for the monitor . Some video cards and Monitor combinations end up somehow giving the wrong info so you end up with the wrong resolution for the monitor. Have you tried selecting a different resolution size like I seem to remember 800x600 maybe working best with the C500 machine? Mac OS 9 also hides some of the resolution sizes in the monitor control panel. As in Recommended and all sizes can be picked but with some video cards all sizes may set a refresh rate too high for you monitor. If you don't know your monitors refresh rate usually 60-65 is safe with most any of them for testing. There are many versions of the Twin turbo card and also Apple and retail versions of the card. The Apple cards came with the older Apple monitor plug only and the retail cards have both Apple & vga plug outs. The Apple cards run with the Mac OS video drivers and the retail cards will run but really need the Twin turbo control panel to set the resolution correctly. So that could be an issue as well. Twin turbo control panel is available at the OWC web site if needed let me know. Hope this helps. I also seem to remember that the Sony vga monitor someone gave me would only show the desktop correctly hooked to the Mac plug on the video card with a mac to vga convertor plug. It wouldn't work right hooked to the vga plug on the video card. best of luck Will S
