Girls in their teens face the highest risk of premature delivery, a major factor in newborn deaths. Because their bodies are not fully mature, they are also at risk of obstructed labour, which often results in the infant's death. Each year more than 536,000 women die due to complications developed during pregnancy and childbirth and 10 million suffer debilitating illnesses and lifelong disabilities.
