The fix here, IMHO, is "don't do that". Define your build/conf
variables as
expected, as a single string on one line. Problem avoided.
But the fact is like mentioned in the bug autotools,cmake and meson are
able to
handle it fine thats how I build my entire Gentoo systems from scratch.
