No reply on mozilla.dev.apps.seamonkey, so I'll try here.

I've been attempting to assist (remotely) an associate w/2.0rc2 on a
64bit Unbuntu Karmic (9.10 beta) KDE machine. SeaMonkey has been
installed into the user's home (/home/<username>/seamonkey) and all
seems to work with the exception of java. Java does not get recognized
in 'about:plugins' & this is starting to sound like:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=435334
[[3.1a1pre] Java plugin is not recognized.]

Note: I only have 32bit machines & have no issues w/my systems. All of
my SeaMonkey(s) are installed in my home folder as well.

I had him follow the instructions at:
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/linux-amd64.html#java-sun
(Karmic uses 1.6.0_15 right now).

Ensured that he created a ~/.mozilla/plugins folder. Triple checked his
symlinks to /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so. He also
installed 1.6.0_16 directly & tried a symlink to
/usr/local/jre1.6.0_16/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so. Of course I had him remove
the other symlink prior to trying the 1.6.0_16. Neither one works. They
_do_ work w/Fx.

Any suggestions?

One other thing of interest; when SeaMonkey is first installed
about:plugins (no ~/.mozilla/plugins created yet) shows:

Default Plugin
VLC Mujltimedia Plugin (compatible Totem 2.28.10
Windows Media Player Plug-in 10 (compatible; Totem)
DivX Web Player
QuickTime Plug-in 7.2.0
Shockwave Flash

The default (Ubuntu'ized) Fx shows:
VLC Mujltimedia Plugin (compatible Totem 2.28.10
Windows Media Player Plug-in 10 (compatible; Totem)
DivX Web Player
QuickTime Plug-in 7.2.0
Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_15
Shockwave Flash

SM is picking up the initial plugins from those that have been installed
for Fx from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. Why? I've tested by placing a
symlink to my java in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so & SM
(32bit) picks that up just fine. My about:plugins (32bit) then show:

VLC Mujltimedia Plugin (compatible Totem 2.28.10
Windows Media Player Plug-in 10 (compatible; Totem)
DivX Web Player
QuickTime Plug-in 7.2.0
Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_15
Shockwave Flash

I'm just curious as to why & why ~/.mozilla/plugins wouldn't be the default.
