Several times with SM 2.0 I have received the message "Alert: There was an error truncating the Inbox after filtering a message to the folder 'k4p'. You may need to shutdown SeaMonkey and delete INBOX.msf."

Aside from the fact that it should no longer be necessary to "shutdown SeaMonkey and delete INBOX.msf" (since one can rebuild the index from within SeaMonkey), why does this happen? I have a high volume of email and a lot of filter rules (about 20) with mail being sorted to a lot of folders.

I used to get this message only on my laptop when fetching mail over dialup (with SM 1.1.18). Now I can get it (occasionally -- about once a day) on my desktop on cable internet.

Bob, the inbox.msf file is the index file for your inbox, deleting it should not cause any great problems, just the next time you select your inbox (without the suffix), a new inbox.msf is created.

Two provisos:-
1. before you delete your inbox.msf, in SeaMonkey empty your Trash folder, then select File|Compact files. This will reduce the size of your inbox by permanently removing "deleted" emails.

2. If you have sub folders of your inbox, may cause you to delete the mail that you have in these sub-folders.
