Mail threading question...

I've noticed this for years, but now that everything else is working so 
good [for me], I'm wondering if anyone here knows why *AOL* mail will 
not thread like other mail?  I have 2 friends that I can't get off of 
AOL, and I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to get their 
mail to sort by subject?
