What I am referring to, say I open Graphic Converter and it ask whether
I want to download an update. (I have set in Safari - yes you set
default Browser in Safari - to open SM 1.1.x when asking to open a URL.)

even though I have set SM1.1.x as my default Browser SM 2 will open.
same with FF2 and FF 3. in other words the newer version takes over
whether you have it set to or not.

Hm. In Panther, you did have to set the default browser in Safari
preferences. In Tiger, which you are using by your UA, that is not
supposed to be the case. True in Leopard and Snow Leopard as well. Its
been quite a while since you had to use Safari preferences to set it.

On my Tiger machine, I have Camino set as default, and Camino
preferences allow me to set that. Firefox allows me to set it as the
default. SeaMonkey doesn't, nor does it on Snow Leopard. Seems like a
bug to me. Windows does have a button to set SeaMonkey as the default.

Ubuntu Linux does not, though that is handled by the system,
System>>Preferences>>Preferred Applications.

SM 2 on a Mac ought to have a Default Browser option, just Firefox and
Camino do.

My current system is OSX.4.11

Just shows the the part setting default Browser.

Before in order, to differentiate between SM 1.1.18 and SM 2; I renamed
SM 2.0 to SeaMonkey2 and left SM 1 as SM. I was able to see both in drop
down list.

And FYI: there is the same setup for default e-mail Client in Mail as well
