You are getting a timeout because Verizon *killed* NNTP news service for
its subscribers last year. You can blame New York State Attorney General
Andrew Cuomo [1] for that. Other major ISPs did as well, notably AT&T.

not "sites", they are "Usenet Newsgroups." Not the WWW.

You've found how to subscribe to the Mozilla news server. Now you'll
want to add a general server for the rest. Have a look at the free
