SeaMonkey 2.3.3 is now available as free downloads for Windows, Mac,

that users keep up to date with the latest stability and support
versions of SeaMonkey, and encourage all our users to upgrade to the
very latest version.
We strongly recommend that all SeaMonkey users upgrade to this latest
releases. If you already have SeaMonkey, you will receive an automated
update notification within 24 to 48 hours.
Justin, what triggers this automated update notification? Do you have a
record that my address has d/l'ed SM so should need notification of
update?? (My address is munged so this wouldn't work for me.) So how do
you know to notify me (if I haven't already d/l'ed the update, myself)??
Mozilla doesn't send it, doesn't know your address.
The program periodically "phones home" just as Windows Update does and
compares its version with the latest available version. In case of a
discrepancy, it prompts the user to download and/or install the new
version. The behavior is controlled by your settings at Edit |
Preferences | Advanced | Software Installation:
SeaMonkey:
Do/Don't Automatically check for updates; if yes, Daily/Weekly.
Do/Don't Automatically download and install the update; if yes, Do/Don't
warn me if this will disable any of my add-ons.
So if you have it set to check daily, it should notify you tomorrow that
it's found a new version.
Thanks for reminding me of these settings, Paul.
My reason for asking was that in the last few days someone posted
here-abouts saying they did a full install of SM 2.3.x and they thought
SM had tried to "phone home" but it was explained that SM was really
looking for 127.0.0.1 or something.
Correct the SM networking layer establishes a connection with itself. It
is just some feature/requirement in how it is written, (thats the extent
I know). And its 100% tied to the way Gecko works, and nothing we
directly control.
