I've noticed the same behavior -- the addresses are ones I'm familiar
with (often obsolete by now), but I can't find them in ANY of my
address books, so they can't be deleted. I'd love to know where to
find them!

Does the operating system have its own address book? Mine (Mac OS)
does, and that is where all my address entries are. It is readable from
SeaMonkey, so is convenient to use.

that does not mean that Apple is better then Microsoft

No -- but that sure would be a nice feature in Windows.

It's pretty silly that I maintain three address books for three
different pieces of software...

Windowz has an address book. In the early days it was worthless with not enough fields and I think that is why it was not used by other apps. Today it is decent. I never understood why other apps, in general, don't use it.
