My current version is 10.1.14.11, which according to Adobe is the latest
version that I can use. I'm running a Vista OS so the new Adobe DC is
not available for my machine, and plug-in checker was saying this before
Adobe DC ever came out.

Is this one that I'm just going to have to live with?

Yes and no...

Yes, 10.1.14.11 is the current version of the full Acrobat X Pro program. The Plugin Check probably thinks version XI (11) is the most recent (assuming you're talking about the full Acrobat program), but version X (10) is perfectly serviceable and I see no reason to spend hundreds of dollars for an upgrade to keep PIC happy.

On the other hand, if you're talking about the Reader, the current version is 2015.007.20033 ("Acrobat Reader DC").

Adobe has recently switched to a new business model, where instead of buying once, paying once, installing once, and running indefinitely, you sign up for a subscription and pay $15 a month or so until you get tired of it, whereupon it stops working -- kind of like AV programs. You can still buy Acrobat Pro XI for $450 under the old model, which corresponds to 30 months of subscription fees. I haven't investigated whether they offer a discount if you upgrade from version X.
