I do indeed believe there are legitimate reasons to cross-post some newsgroup messages. The recent announcement of the official release of SeaMonkey 2.35 is an example of a good reason to cross-post.
Because bug #43278 remains open, however, cross-posting should include indicating a Followup-To newsgroup so that any resulting thread propagates only in one newsgroup. The initial message should also include a statement to which newsgroups the message is cross-posted and to which newsgroup followup messages will be routed (as below). See <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43278>, which has been open for more than 15 years. Cross-posted to mozilla.support.seamonkey and mozilla.dev.apps.seamonkey. Followup-To: mozilla.dev.apps.seamonkey -- David E. Ross The Crimea is Putin's Sudetenland. The Ukraine will be Putin's Czechoslovakia.
