You say these are four parts of a single French dictionary. If you
go to about:addons (CTRL-SHIFT-A) and select "Extensions," is there
an "Options" button next to the dictionary? Can you set your
preference there?

Sorry, no, there is nothing in "Extensions" .. The dictionary is present
in "Dictionaries" where full infos are:
Dictionaires français 5.4.1
by Olivier R.
Quatre dictionnaires français : “Moderne”, “Classique”, “Réforme 1990”,
“Classique & Réforme 1990”

The only options are: "Disable" or "Remove".

If you click "More" under the dictionary, you'll come to this comment
from the author/publisher:

YOU CAN SELECT WHICH DICTIONARY TO USE WITH A RIGHT CLICK IN A TEXTAREA.

Issue about the preselection of one of these dictionaries
It is wrong that one of these dictionaries has priority over all
others. There is no presetting within this extension. Firefox should
always remember the last dictionary you used. If it doesn’t work like
this for you, the issue comes from somewhere else (corrupted profile,
Linux distribution mess, another extension ?).
It’s pointless to complain about this matter in the comments. If you
don’t believe me, unzip the xpi file, you’ll find no code to
prioritize one of these dictionaries.
[end quote]

I see in Edit | Preferences... that all four French dictionaries are
listed, not one with options, so you're right, your selection should
stick. Unfortunately, SM tends to be forgetful in this area; several
users (including me) have complained about it. Sorry/Désolé.

I CANNOT SELECT .....
I have clicked on "More" then rigth-click ... Tell me where i can do
what you explain with that screen-copy:
http://home.scarlet.be/~pin10521/dictionaire.jpg

I have installed ONLY ONE dictionary The French one which is divided in 4.

As I understand the author's note, he's not talking about right-clicking here, but in a message composition window or a web form, a place where you would need the spell-checker.

I understand about installing one dico and getting four since I did it for test purposes. So in Edit | Preferences | Appearance | Spelling | General | Languages, when I pull down the list by clicking the button, I can select any one of the four French dictionaries. The problem would be if the selection doesn't "stick." That's what I meant about SM being "forgetful." I had the same problem tonight as I was editing subtitles for a Korean drama -- all of a sudden it switched to the Russian dictionary and I had to switch it back. Comment dit-on "grrr..." en français? ;-)

Parfois on dit: "MERDE" :-)
