Using SeaMonkey for news. When there are replies to threads the
number
of unread shows next to the group as expected. However, no
threads in
the message list are highlighted so I have to expand all the
threads to
find the new posts. Any workaround for this?

The first post in the thread is not underlined when there are new
unread
messages?

The first post in the thread is bold and the rest are underlined.

I don't see that here. The original post is not bold after being read
even with a reply.

Before you read the first post, it is bold, but not afterwards.

Well, sure. In a newsgroup one may have read the first post days ago.

Not if you set the application to download only unread messages.

I have been inside and out of SM and I do not see an option to only
download unread messages.

Probably because you don't download any messages (Read or Unread) until you actually click on a message that you want to read.

Unless, of course, you have selected to download every message by setting up File -> Offline -> Download/Sync Now to actually download messages from the news server onto your hard drive so you can read them whilst offline!
