Thanks, that extension works well, and is able to download a youtube video, even if it uses ranges.

However, I'm more interested in how it's supposed to work with the browser's built-in video player? If this type of video adheres to open standards, which appears to be the case, then it should be possible for the video player within the browser to detect the ranges and download the full video...
