I've had problems all day with opening SM 2.48. It took me literally most of the day to figure out what the solution was.
I have a MAC macOS Sierra 10.12.6 and it appears as if SM 2.48 isn't compatible with the Mac OS I am on. To solve this I downloaded SM 2.46 (after saving my PROFILE) and everything works fine.
