Infrequently [but often enough to be annoying] messages get marked "watch thread" without apparent cause.

It happened again today.
I read and then replied to USENET post.
My post was tagged "watch thread".
Why?

TIA

If you right click on the message does the "Watch Thread" context menu item have a check mark? Uncheck it.

<chuckle> I had -- I date back to Netscape 4.?
My question was why did it happen in the first place.
The behavior goes back quite a ways - gut feel is several releases.

BTW I use
User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.4
Build identifier: 20180711182954

My OS is Debian 9.1

There is a bug on Linux that if you open the context menu with a right click with the mouse close to the right edge of the pane, a context menu item will be enabled.

I think that explains other more frequent problems.
I'll attempt to open the menus with intent of using "Tag" or "Mark" options.

What will happen is one of:
the message will be sent to trash.
compose window will open as if I had chosen "Reply ..." .
the message is moved to an archive folder.

The thread mentioned spoke of work arounds.
Will not have time immediately to check if they solve *my* problems.

Thank you.
