Forgive me for asking this, but: when you recovered paymnts.102, did you 
remember to change the name back to the original name?  FMP usually adds a 
"recovered" to the name of the file during that operation...

When you click on the payments tab from names, does it pop up a dialog box 
asking you to find the paymnts.102 file?  If so, do you point it to the 
file?  What happens then?
