Jack or Alice or Marshall or other egroup guru:

Can any of you help explain some ebase structure? I'm working on a major
customization of the membership system, and I find myself wading through
calcs and scripts that I don't completely understand...

The FIND fields (FIND $ YTD, etc.) draw their values from two distinct
places. The "Replace Curr Find Field Values" script does a copy/paste from
the MEM: fields in the Summary file. The "Replace All ... Values" script,
on the other hand, uses the SUM: fields from the Names file as the target
of a self join lookup. Both of these consist of groups of unstored calcs
drawing on data from the Paymnts file. I don't understand why both are
needed. Why not simply use one or the other? I know unstored calcs take
up no data space on disk, but it makes for double the work when
modifications are needed. I'm probably missing something.

Thanks for your help,
