Lance,
Since counties have mulitple town names and zip codes, it would be
impossible for ebase to know which zip or town name to auto-enter after
entering a county.
On the other hand, any one zip probably relates to only one county, so
the auto-enter routine should work to auto-enter county name from the
zip code.
The easiest way to do this is to export county data from your database
along with zip, town, area code, etc. and import this data into the zip
code file. I'll post the instructions to do so below. Again, add the
County field to the export list and County should be auto-entered when
you add a zip code. For zip codes that aren't yet in your database, the
auto-enter function won't work until you re-run the routine below.
Lastly, in New England, many zip codes are associated with several town
names. When the auto-enter routine adds the town name, it adds only one
of those names. While the Post Office doesn't care about this, our
members do. We have to verify the auto-entered town name to make sure
it is correct.

Here it is (thanks to Trey Beck and Tandra Ericson:
>1) Find all in the Names file
This, obviously, finds all records. If you have records in your database
that may not have zip codes, you might omit those that are blank. The
Filemaker and ebase manuals have good sections on finds that are worth
committing to memory.
>2) sort by zipcode
Mode -> Sort -> Select Zip\Postal Code and "Move"
Choose "Sort"
>3) export zipcode, city st, county area code
File -> Import/Export -> Export Records
Enter the name of the file to be saved to a tab-delimited file.
Something
like "zipxfer".
Now you will be asked which fields should be exported. You might choose
the
following:
Zip\Postal Code
Home Phone AC
City
State\Province
Select "Summarize by" and highlight Zip\Postal Code. This ensures that
if
you have multiple records corresponding to "80202 Denver Colorado", for
example, that only one will be exported.
>5) Then import the file into the zip_100 file
Minimize the names file and maximize the zip_.10x file.
Choose File -> Import/Export -> Import Records
Browse to find your "zipxfer.tab" file and select it.
In the resulting dialog box, match the fields that you're importing with
their counterparts in the zip_.10x file. To do this, clear arrows, align
fields as appropriate, then reset the arrows (no arrows, no import). Use
the
scan buttons to make sure that the correct values are where they should
be.
Hit "Import".
And there you go. Return to the names_.10x file and change your tab
order
to
hit the zip code field before the city or state. For a new record, on
entering a zip code that exists in the new zip_.10x file, your
city/state/ac
info should be completed for you.
